Child Death Overview Panel

The death of all children under the age of 18 must be reviewed by a Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) on behalf of the relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board. The CDOP in this area covers Blackpool, Blackburn with Darwen and Lancashire and is known as the Pan-Lancashire CDOP.

The Panel is not given any names and the details are dealt with anonymously, with the main purpose being to identify lessons to try and prevent future child deaths.

If you are a parent or carer and would like more information on CDOP please see this leaflet CDOP information leaflet for parents and carers.

More information on the CDOP process can be found in statutory guidance, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) Chapter 5:

The Panel has collated information relating to local bereavement services where families can be referred for support following the death of a child. Click on the link below to access this information.
